Join us in Healing the Columbia River with Indigenous Youth Leadership
Sx̌ʷnítkʷ - Paddle to the Kettle Falls Salmon Ceremony is honored to introduce you to kʷu sqilxʷ, our newly formed Indigenous Youth Leadership group. We are a group of indigenous youth leaders who are determined to create an inclusive environment of engagement and collaboration to heal the Columbia River and her first peoples. Our mission is to teach indigenous leaders how to lead with integrity and courage by prioritizing initiatives that center around education and advocacy for indigenous water and land. We were formed under a partnership with the University of Washington to increase physical and mental health amongst indigenous youth. We are thankful for all of their support in this development phase. We will be conducting surveys with youth on the journey to better understand how this journey impacts our wellbeing and to help us better understand what we should be prioritizing around youth development.
At kʷu sqilxʷ, our vision of creating meaningful change is fueled by the power of community and collective action. We believe that transformational leadership begins with building partnerships and a strong sense of community. Therefore, we are inviting you to join us in this journey to heal the Columbia River.
As we paddle towards Sx̌ʷnítkʷ, we are committed to empowering indigenous youth leaders and facilitating a space where they can thrive. Our goal is to utilize this journey as a platform for education, advocacy, and community building. We envision creating a space where indigenous youth feel valued and supported, where they can learn from elders and peers, and where they can develop leadership skills based on indigenous values.
We believe that everyone has a role to play in the healing process of the Columbia River, and we hope that you will join us in this journey. We encourage you to participate fully and share your thoughts on the survey that we will provide at the end. Your feedback will help us learn the most effective ways to communicate on the river, how we can improve camping and leadership relationships amongst participants, and how we can help make this experience a transformative adventure for all participants from adults to children.
We are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such amazing people in this journey. We are thankful for the support and encouragement of our elders, community partners, and leaders. We appreciate the opportunity to connect with individuals who share our passion for creating a better future for our communities.
Join us in healing the Columbia River and her first peoples; & Join us in empowering indigenous youth leaders. We believe that together we can make a difference, and we hope that you will join us on this journey. We look forward to hearing from you and learning from your invaluable input. Our kʷu sqilxʷ journey is just the beginning, and we hope that you will join us in shaping the future of indigenous youth leadership in our communities.
